Founded in 1986, Grupo M is a vertically integrated apparel manufacturer in the Dominican Republic (DR) producing knits and woven products for the US market. Grupo M (DR) and its subsidiary in Haiti, La Compagnie De Development Industriel, S.A. (Codevi) are an integrated operation and remain one of the largest garment manufacturing operations in the Caribbean/Central American region, supplying major US brand name companies including Liz Clairborne, Polo, Levis, Hanes and Calvin Klein. The production site at Caribbean Industrial Park (CIP), in Santiago City, DR manufactures woven and knitted fabric and has garment finishing operations, while Codevi is engaged in garment assembly operations. The Codevi complex, a duty-free zone in Ouanaminthe, Haiti on the border with DR, is operating successfully and has grown its Haitian payroll from 300 in 2006 to more than 7,000 employees by mid-2013, making it currently the largest employer in Haiti. Codevi currently comprises six apparel assembly buildings, one building for electrical equipment assembly, offices buildings and a training center.The proposed project would support Codevi in an expansion program which consists of the construction of a new facility for assembly of woven garments; and (ii) the acquisition of specialized machinery for dry garment assembly and processing operations. The project will be undertaken in two new buildings to be constructed on land already owned by Grupo M at Codevi.
