Description

Description

This project consists of development of two solar power plants, located in Colleen Bawn and Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The sponsor is cement manufacturer Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC Zimbabwe). Its Bulawayo factory will be equipped with a 10MW solar PV plant with over 20,000 ground-mounted panels and will be connected to the Bulawayo milling plant and the ZESA grid. Colleen Bawn factory will have a 20MW solar PV plant with 18-MW-hours of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to support the kiln to run for 4 hours during the night/power outage. Colleen Bawn plant will have over 40,000 ground-mounted panels and will be connected to the ZESA grid. Both plants have excess capacity - Colleen Bawn will use 13MW of the 20MW produced translating to 35% of the energy produced being fed into the grid and Bulawayo Factory will use 5MW of the 10MW produced translating to 58% of the energy being into the national grid. Total investment stands at $43 million and financial close took place on September 18, 2022. https://www.sundaynews.co.zw/ppc-complete-financial-closure-of-solar-project/ https://ppczimbabwe.devpreview.net/project/ppc-zimbabwe-solar-farms-project/
