Columbus Drive Shared Use Path

The construction of Columbus Drive - Wishingwell Road to Wexford Street Shared-use Path (SUP) consists of upgrading the existing sidewalk (300 meters) on the East side of Columbus Drive from just North of Wishingwell Road to Wexford Street. This will connect the existing SUP’s on either end that were constructed previously for an active transportation route comfortable for use by people of all ages and abilities. The project supports transportation equity by filling gaps in current public transit coverage and connecting neighbourhoods and essential destinations with a shared-use path that will attract people of all ages and abilities to walk, stroll, roll or cycle. The route alignment is part of the Bike St. John’s Master Plan. The existing sidewalk will be replaced with an asphalt surface widened to 3.0 metres. The entire section will be adjacent to the street corridor. The scope of the construction work includes removing existing sidewalk and curb/gutter, minor excavation and grubbing, installation of curb and gutter and trail surface, asphalt reinstatement and finished landscaping. Street crossings and intersections will be upgraded to create a continuous and comfortable route.
