Description
Description | The project will construct a pedestrian/cycling overpass crossing the Island Highway by Wale Road in Colwood to eliminate the need for Galloping Goose Trail users to leave the trail to cross at a busy intersection. The Galloping Goose Trail is a popular commuting and recreational transportation corridor on an abandoned rail line. Establishing a crossing over the Island Highway will enhance safety and increase the number of trail users significantly, allowing the trail to continue uninterrupted through Colwood. The detour that exists is confusing and not well used. Recently, there was a lot of press about the need for the overpass when a citizen cycling to work was seriously injured after getting hit by a car. The trail is maintained by the Capital Regional District who have provided their support to the District for the construction of the overpass. The project works will include: - construction of an approximately 38m overpass; - two approach spans connecting the bridge to the trail; - retaining walls and bridge railings; - fences and pavement for connecting trail surfaces; - utility moves; - street works, lighting, electrical and landscaping; and, - related works. |
