Description

Description

Comahue Transmission line is Argentina's fourth 500 kV transmission line connecting power generators in the western Comahue region with Buenos Aires. Development and ownership of this project was awarded to Transener (Compania de Transporte de Energia Electrica de Alta Tension SA) in late 1997 by a consortium of hydroelectric and thermal generating companies in Comahue. Transener is the owner of Argentina's largest transmission system. Transener was formed in 1992 from the transmission assets of three state-owned electric utilities. A 65% stake in Transener was sold to an international consortium. The transmission line serves the greater Buenos Aires area. It is expected to increase the region's transmission capacity from 2,700 to 4,600 MW. In 2000, Transener completed the construction of the 1,290-KM transmission line running from Piedra del Aguila transforming station to Abasto. Transener invested a total of US$ 260 million in this new facility, which was debt financed (syndicated loan from several banks in 1998). None None
