 Established in 1992, Comercializadora de Maní, S.A. (“Comasa” or the “Company”) is the largest peanut processor and exporter in Nicaragua. Comasa’s clients include large multinational companies in the food industry, like Pepsico, Mars and Intersnack, as well a regional snack companies. Comasa originates peanuts from farmers, stores and processes them, and commercializes its production (shelled and blanched peanuts) mainly in the export markets. At peak, the company stores approximately 159,400 tons of raw peanuts; processing is done during the months of November and September, with a production capacity of approximately 550 tons/day. The Company would like to diversify its funding sources and has requested IFC to arrange a US$65M A/B Loan financing package to finance the working capital required to purchase, process and export peanuts (the “Project”). No expansion in planted area or processing capacity is foreseen from this project. The company has administrative offices in Managua and Chinandega and 4 peanut processing plants, found in Central, Posoltega, Sempro, and Manicasa. The biggest facility is Comasa Central, where approximately 80% of the peanuts are stored and processed and is in an industrial area on the outskirts of the town of Chinandega, 141 km northwest from Managua. In addition, Comasa has a stake in Seragro, a company that produces peanuts on 5 farms totaling 1,725 ha in size. The company has 838 employees, with peak operating season between November and January.
