Description
Description | The aim of the FC project is to improve nutrition and food security, particularly for children and pregnant and breastfeeding women in four provinces in Burundi, and to strengthen resilience for vulnerable households at the community level. The direct (or primary) target group is children under 2 years of age, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers. In addition, the measures also support children up to 5 years of age and adolescents, as well as particularly vulnerable households. The indirect target group includes the population in the program provinces and districts (around 1.8 million people) who are severely affected by the current precarious food supply (e.g. through awareness-raising campaigns via radio, or the better availability of fortified flour, see section 5.03). The direct target group is around 450,000 direct beneficiaries annually. The FC project envisages a mix of multi-sectoral, needs-based measures and includes nutrition-sensitive and nutrition-specific interventions through the application of a community-based approach. These include nutrition-sensitive cash transfers accompanied by nutrition-related awareness-raising measures, which are primarily aimed at pregnant and breastfeeding women or women with children under 2 years of age. In addition, nutrition-specific interventions are implemented, including special food for children under 2 years of age. The recipients of the FC funds are the World Food Programme (WFP) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). The two UN organizations are also sponsors of the measure and will implement the project jointly in accordance with their respective defined responsibilities and core competencies. The total cost of the project amounts to EUR 15 million, which will be financed from SEWOH funds. The implementation period for the services of the entire project is 60 months. |
