Description
Description | Chronic and acute malnutrition and food insecurity are particularly widespread among children and pregnant and breastfeeding women due to increased vulnerability to extreme environmental events, particularly in the south of Madagascar. In addition, hygiene practices and health care are inadequate for many households. High price increases for basic goods and the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine have further increased the precariousness of these population groups. The project contributes to combating malnutrition and strengthening the resilience of the target group. The aim of the multi-sectoral, needs-based measures is to improve access to a nutritious, varied diet, to WASH and to child-friendly social security, as well as to strengthen the resilience of individuals and communities to climate-related environmental shocks, crop failures and, among other things, war-related inflation. This contributes to the prevention of chronic and acute malnutrition. The target group is the population of three communities in the project regions of Atsimo Andrefana (Itampolo), Anosy (Tsivori) and Androy (Sihanamaro) in southern Madagascar. Key measures include improving - access to inclusive, high-quality and gender-equitable basic social services and to a varied, nutritious and safe diet - production capacities and market connections and access to productive assets - capacities for the administration of basic social services and accountability mechanisms. The recipients of the funds and the sponsors are the World Food Programme (WFP) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), which will implement the project jointly in close coordination and in consultation with government agencies. |
