Combined road-rail bridge project in Latvia

The project involves the construction of a 1.1 km long two-level road-rail bridge over the Daugava River in Latvia.The bridge comprises eight 150-m-long spans with the railway line positioned at the lower level, around 12 m above the water, while the highway is situated on top, approximately 22 m above the river. For safety reasons, pedestrian and cyclist access will be prohibited on the high-speed section of the Riga Ring Road (A4) that crosses the Daugava River. As trains are expected to reach speeds of up to 300 km/h, separate infrastructure, such as parallel roads or an additional bridge, will be constructed to accommodate pedestrians and cyclists. The construction of the bridge includes a steel truss grid and a monolithic reinforced concrete road and railway deck, with 2+2 lanes for car traffic and 1+1 rails for high-speed railway. The bridge is designed to comply with the Eurocode standards for railway and road loads.The project aims to establish a safe and efficient national highway network, enabling Riga to bypass accessibility from any administrative center within 2 hours or less.
