Description

Description

This project consists of separating combined sewers and upgrading existing underground infrastructure on a section of School Street, from Queen to Main Street, in the Town of St. Stephen. The existing infrastructure is at the end-of-life, with the sanitary sewer main subject to significant inflow and infiltration, as no storm sewer exists in some areas and catch basins are currently connected to the sanitary sewer main. The project scope includes: constructing a 279 metre storm sewer and replacing 460 metres of the existing watermain with a larger main, which will improve fire flow availability and system redundancy; replacing 137 metres of existing wastewater main; constructing several catch basins and manholes; and, reconstructing the street with granular base/sub-base and asphalt surface, along with curbing and sidewalk renewal. The new storm sewer will help adapt to the impacts of climate change by decreasing infiltration into the sanitary sewer and in turn reducing the chance of a sanitary pump failure during flooding events. This project will provide the Town of St. Stephen with increased access to potable water, increased capacity to manage wastewater and storm water, as well as increased quality of pathways.
