Description
Description | The existing underground water main on this 425m section of Union Street is at the end of it’s useful life and the sanitary sewer mains are subject to significant inflow as no storm sewer exists in some areas of the street. In addition, the condition of the asphalt street is in poor condition. The project involves construction of a storm sewer to eliminate the combined sewer and replacement of the water main with a larger water main that is part of a multi-year plan to have a large diameter water main feeding the western half of the Town to improve fire flow availability and system redundancy. The street will be reconstructed with granular base/subbase and asphalt surface, with curbing in select areas and sidewalk renewal. This project will increase the useful life of multiple linear assets (street and utility) and reduce operation and maintenance costs. Combined sewer separation will reduce pumping (energy) costs at downstream pumping stations. Separation of combined sewer flows will help reduce the risk of basement backup flooding for residents. New storm sewer will be sized to handle flows with climate change considerations and removal of inflow from the sanitary will reduce downstream sewer overflows. |
