Description
Description | The cross-border Yamoussa National Park (Bouba Ndjida, Cameroon, Sena Oura, Chad) is of great importance for biodiversity conservation in the Soudano-Guinean zone of West and Central Africa and is one of the last refuges for important endangered animal species in the region. The rising population and the associated increase in land use for livestock farming and agriculture are increasing the pressure on the park. Added to this are newly discovered gold reserves, resource degradation in the adjacent hunting zones in Cameroon and the increase in organized, international ivory poaching, although effective park management does not yet exist (core problem). The module objective is to improve the monitoring and protection of the cross-border Yamoussa National Park and its periphery. There is worldwide interest in positive effects on the global goods of biodiversity and climate. The target group in the narrower sense are the residents of the protected areas, who mostly live in poor conditions and use the natural resources for their livelihood. In the FC module, the park administrations of the two protected areas will be supported by the international NGO WCS in their (cross-border) monitoring and protection measures, thereby contributing to improved park management. In addition, socio-economic infrastructure will help improve the living conditions of the local population. The FC contribution amounts to EUR 15 million over a total period of 4 years (Phases III and IV). |
