Description | The project involves the demolition and replacement of the Commercial Street Bridge near the Squirrel Hill Tunnel in Pittsburgh. The existing bridge will be demolished, including some blasting, and a new bridge built adjacent to the existing structure will be slid into place during a 25-day closure of the Parkway East. The new bridge will be moved about 100 feet onto new foundations already installed. After reopening, Commercial Street under the bridge will be restored to its original location, and several thousand new trees will be planted in Frick Park under the bridge in the fall. |
