Description

Description

This project is designed to deliver a ‘commercialisation roadmap’ that supports Dyesol’s ambition to move to scalable manufacturing of efficient and reliable perovskite solar cell technology.Project innovationDyesol will undertake testing and optimisation of techniques for scalable manufacture of perovskite solar cell technology. It aims to achieve greater than 10 per cent efficiency for a batch of 1 cm2 cells measured by 1000 hours of standardised testing in full sun light. The project will further the technology towards commercialisation through:selecting preferred solar cell architectures and benchmarking their performance and stabilityevaluating the suitability and feasibility of the preferred architecture for mass production by analysing factors that impact industrialisationmodelling of Levelised Cost of Energy (LCOE)expanding staff training and skill developmentintegrating outcomes into a knowledge sharing plancontinuing existing national and international collaboration and creating new collaborations and links with potential partners to further support the development of perovskite solar cell technology in Australiastrengthening and expanding Dyesol’s collaborations with Australian research organisations including CSIRO, UNSW, Cooperative Research Centre for Low Carbon Living and The Australian Centre for Advanced Photovoltaics (ACAP).Perovskites refer to a specific mineral that was first discovered in the Ural Mountains. The term ‘perovskite’ now also extends to any material that exhibits a similar crystalline structure, the properties of which are highly prospective for incorporation into solar cells, specifically the transport of electrons.BenefitThe main benefit of making solar cells from perovskite is that the material is cheap and abundant and could ultimately be used to produce dramatically lower cost solar power.Perovskite solar cells can also be produced in very thin layer architectures with high degrees of transparency, which lends them to a variety of novel applications, including building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) projects and flexible panel designs.A commercialisation ‘roadmap’ will guide investment and innovation in perovskite solar cell manufacture and provide a clearer understanding of the patent landscape. This work will be a crucial first step on the pathway to commerciality.
