Description | The funding supports the area of the Danube river branches in the surroundings of Mosonmagyaróvár and Somorja. The areas on both sides of the border are nature conservation areas, therefore it was important to reconcile interests of nature protection and local inhabitants. Water tourism by kayak and canoe is a traditional branch of sustainable tourism. Both the Felső-Szigetköz Leisure and Water Sports Association, and its Slovakian partner the Forum Centre participated in working out the feasibility study of the Szigetköz-Csallóköz National Park in 2005 initiated by non-governmental organisations. This was complemented by two events, the Dunakiliti–Somorja Common Water Festival and the „Delta without borders” Water Canoe Marathon. The popularity of both programs indicates that people like these water sports. |
