Community Connections Accessibility Upgrades

This project consists of interior expansion of the building, significant accessibility upgrades, exterior accessibility and safety upgrades. The scope of the work involves: Repurpose semi-industrial space of approximately 2,900 square feet and install a 10 foot drop ceiling. Install approximately 12 new windows on the north, west, and east exterior walls. Install doorway entrances to the program areas. An addition to the building of 600 square feet to provide day services activities. Install 2 new accessible washrooms with accessible door entry and a reinforced wall system to accommodate fixed pneumatic change table. Move an existing wall to upgrade accessibility to the kitchen area and upgrade kitchen space to support wheelchair dependent clients. Move an existing wall to increase the space of the cafeteria. Create new space for staff offices. Install air conditioning systems throughout the building to support air conditioning to approximately 14,500 square feet. Upgrade the interior lighting system and install a more cost-efficient LED Lights. Exterior work: Install a semi-circular driveway to increase the safety for client transportation and accessible wheelchair transportation to the building off the Water Street entrance and increase traffic safety on Water Street. Expand the parking lot off Water Street and add additional wheelchair parking spaces and conventional parking spaces to accommodate increase in client services. The aim of the project is to improve and expand the current infrastructure space of the Water Street facility to support the increase in client services and the increase in client numbers who are wanting to attend the Day Services programs at Community Connections. It will enable parents and families of persons with disabilities to continue with their lives (employment, etc.) knowing that their adult children with disabilities are receiving safe and appropriate support services.
