Description
Description | COMPASS-AI aims to overcome critical barriers to the safe and effective deployment of AI in healthcare by developing scalable, equitable solutions, with a focus on cancer care and remote regions. The strength of COMPASS-AI is manifold. At the heart of the project is its multidisciplinary community of experts, including healthcare professionals, patient representatives, AI developers, IT specialists, hospital managers, regulators, ethicists, economists and policymakers, who will leverage their collective expertise to identify challenges, enablers, and actionable strategies for AI implementation. Rather than starting anew, the project will build upon an established framework for trustworthy AI in healthcare (FUTURE-AI). By integrating insights from the expert community, best-practice AI deployment guidelines will be defined and validated through four pilot studies conducted across European countries, in diverse healthcare settings, and clinical practices. The advantage of this broad approach is that the guidelines will be adaptable and relevant to varied healthcare systems in different cultural environments. To support adoption and prepare Europe for broad deployment, the project will launch an interactive digital platform consolidating and mapping best practices, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange, offering educational programs tailored to stakeholder needs to improve AI literacy. Complemented by actionable policy recommendations COMPASS-AI will accelerate sustainable, large-scale AI adoption. The project ensures visibility and credibility through the strong consortium of partners with extensive networks, recognized experts with leadership roles in hospitals, professional societies and engagements in EU AI-healthcare projects. This, together with the multidisciplinary broad approach, addressing deployment challenges in a diversity of healthcare environments, COMPASS-AI is well-positioned to establish best practices and drive equitable AI in healthcare. |
