Community Pier and Dock Project

The project will increase access to the Village of Tahsis by constructing a new, multi-purpose community pier and dock that will be utilized by marine vessels. A recent condition assessment identified that the marine facilities, the wharf, and boat launch, were over 60 years old, in poor condition, and at the end of their intended service life. The wharf had extensive deterioration and was closed to the public in spring 2020 for safety concerns. The new pier and dock will provide safe and reliable marine infrastructure for residents, visitors, and surrounding remote coastal communities who depend on these facilities for access to school, transportation of goods, and recreation in addition to emergency access services, including first responders. The Community Pier and Dock project will consist of the following: - demolition and removal of the existing airplane dock; - construction of a steel access gangway to the main float; - construction of a boat launch float for vessel loading/unloading; - replacement of a new launch ramp with improved performance for larger vessels and lower tides; - support services including fire suppression, potable water, and electrical supply; and, - related works.
