Description

Description

CENF is the electricity concessionaire of the city of Nova Friburgo. Its activities include the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity to residential and industrial users. In June 1997, 69.8% of CENF's shares were acquired by Companhia Forca e Luz Cataguases-Leopoldina, which paid US$ 52. 2 million for this controlling stake. The city of Nova Friburgo has a population of 190,000, and, in 1999, CENF distributed electricity to 67,600 customers. CENF has a generating capacity of 42 GW per hour. In 2008, Companhia Forca e Luz Cataguases-Leopoldina was renamed Grupo Energisa because of the regulatory decision that a single company cannot operate in the different segments of the energy market. Grupo Energisa's ownership structure is the following: Gipar S.A. (65.8%), Gaster Participações S/A (22.3%), Eletrobras (1.2%), Itacatu S.A. (5.9%), BNDES (0.7%) and other small shareholders (4.1%). The project company's name was also changed to Energisa Nova Friburgo - Distribuidora de Energia S/A. As of December 2009, the project company was wholly-owned subsidiary of Grupo Energisa. In June 2014, the state-owned bank BNDES approved a US$ 2.8 million (BRL 6.5 million) loan to the company. In 2001 after investing US$ 2.5 million (R$ 5.6 million) the company reached the mark of 74,878 consumers units by the end of the year. The total electricity consumption in 2001 was 263,000 MWh.
