Description

Description

Scgas distributes natural gas in the southern state of Santa Catarina. It has a 265-KM long network and provides natural gas mostly to industrial consumers. In the long-run, the company intends to distribute natural gas also to residential consumers. In the first phase of the project, which started commercial operations in May 2000, the company invested US$ 30.4 million. The natural gas distributed by Scgas comes from Bolivia and is transported by Gasbol. Scgas is a joint-venture of Enron's subsidiary Gaspart (41%), the state-owned company Petrobras' subsidiary Gaspetro (41%), Santa Catarina state (17%) and the industry association Infragas (1%). In 2001, the company intends to expand its network by 90 KM with its own resources. In Apr. 2001, a US$ 49.3 million loan was approved by the BNDES to finance expanding the project by an additional 800 KM (total cost: US$ 98.6 million). As of May 2004, the network was 520 KM. As of 2005, Enron was in the midst of liquidating its operations and distributing its assets to its creditors. The Brazilian subsidiary of the Japanese giant Mitsui concluded in May 2006 the acquisition of Gaspart from the Enron group, by US$250 million. In August 2016, Mitsui acquired a 49% stake in Gaspetro, raising its shareholding of the project company to 61.1%;
