Description | Companhia Energetica de Brasilia (CEB) is Brasilia's electricity distribution company. The federal district of Brazil sold a 18.37% equity stake of CEB for $73.6 million through an auction on the Rio de Janeiro stock exchange to a group of Brazilian banks including Garantia and Brasdesco in April 1997. The stake sold by the federal district represented 82.4% of its preferred stocks in CEB. After this transaction, the district's holding in CEB was reduced from 79.48% to 61.1%. In September 2014, the state-owned bank BNDES approved a US$ 39.7 million (BRL 93.4 million) loan to the company. No Commit. In 2001 the Brazilian government implemented the electricity rationing program to overcome the electricity supply crises occurred in Brazil during 2001. As a consequence of this program, the total electricity consumption dropped to 3,314,200 MWh on that year. Along 2001, CEB invested US$ 32.2 million (R$ 71.7 million) and reached the mark of 594,698 consumers unit. In 2002 the company resumed its capex program and invested US$ 22.3 million (R$ 65.1 million). With the end of the electricity rationing program, the total electricity consumption increased to 3,459,800 MWh, still smaller than the pre-2001 levels. By the end of the year the company had 630,414 consumers units. |
