Description
Description | The Jungle War Instruction Center (CIGS) area project aims to make the CIGS zoo a reference center for research, education and conservation of Amazonian fauna, in addition to offering a differentiated tourist experience to visitors. Its origins in 1967 were in response to the need to provide students of the Jungle Operations Course with experience with elements of Amazonian fauna and flora, fundamental for the training of jungle warriors. From 1969 onwards, it was opened to the public. The ZooCIGS tourist development, located in the urban area of the municipality of Manaus, covers an area of 45,184.7 m² under the jurisdiction of the Brazilian Army, with 13,117 m² of built area and the remainder of preserved native forest. The zoo, a partner with environmental protection agencies, is the only area in the state of Amazonas qualified to welcome animals that cannot return to the wild, for health, safety or adaptation reasons. The Brazilian Army is responsible for welcoming and caring for animals until their natural death, providing adequate food, veterinary treatment and well-being. The proposal also makes it possible to develop a biodiversity conservation enterprise and generate carbon credits on a public plot of land measuring 1,152 km2 (115.2 thousand hectares) administered by the Army, located in the rural areas of the municipalities of Manaus/AM and Rio Preto da Eva/ AM, where military instruction activities are carried out. The instruction field is located between the Puraquequara River, the Preto da Eva River, the AM-010 Highway and the Amazon River. Resolutions and Decrees: CPPI Resolution No. 296, of November 22, 2023 – Opines for the qualification of the Brazilian Army Historical Museum and Copacabana Fort, located in the State of Rio de Janeiro, and areas of the Brazilian Army Jungle War Instruction Center, located in the State of Amazonas, within the scope of the Investment Partnership Program of the Presidency of the Republic. Decree No. 11,898, of January 23, 2024 – Provides for the qualification of the Brazilian Army Historical Museum and Copacabana Fort, located in the State of Rio de Janeiro, and areas of the Brazilian Army Jungle War Instruction Center, located in the State of Amazonas, within the scope of the Investment Partnership Program of the Presidency of the Republic. |
