Condition Inspection, Design and Remediation of Gorham Street watermain

This project will include assessment, engineering, construction, inspection, commissioning of new infrastructure and will determine a strategy to replace or reline the watermain. The immediate needs are to prevent service interruptions, improve customer service and reliability, and manage risk. The 500 meter section of water main on Gorham Street that will be replaced is 40+ years old and has suffered several severe breaks recently. The pipe is 300 mm (12”) in size and is constructed of Ductile Iron. Pipe condition is poor due to corrosion. The area that is serviced from this water main includes 20 single family homes, a Church, Fire Hall and a retirement village that includes 2, one hundred unit high rise buildings and 65 townhomes. There is an urgent need to determine the remediation needs of the Gorham Street watermain. The watermain services sensitive customers such as the Town’s Fire Department, old age and retirement homes that include 2, one hundred unit high rise buildings and 65 townhomes, a church and local residents. There have been several severe failures recently that have required service interruption for extended periods of time to the noted locations as well as complex and costly repairs.
