Description | The first project is a 15-MW hydroelectric plant located in San Ramon. The plant was developed on a Build-Own-Operate basis by Conelectricas R.L. The project's total cost was estimated at US$ 22.8 million. The power plant started commercial operations in August 1997. Conelectricas R.L signed a 15-year power purchase agreement with Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE), the Costa Rican national electricity utility company. The power purchase agreement was one of the 20 contracts that ICE signed with private developers at the beginning of 1990s. Only six projects have an installed capacity of 10-MW or more. The IAIC and BCIE have provided financing for this project. The sponsors contributed with US$ 8.3 million in equity. |
