Congo - FIP Additional Financing - Integrated Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (PRODIVAC)

The Integrated Agricultural Value Chains Development Project in Congo (PRODIVAC) in Congo was approved on 21 November 2019 with the aim of contributing to the improvement of food and nutritional security and diversification of the country's economy. The project covers primarily the corridors of the major commercial centres of Brazzaville and Pointe Noire, and the farming basins in the departments of Plateaux, Pool, Bouenza, Cuvette and, Niari. PRODIVAC focuses its interventions on four value chains (cassava, maize, poultry and fish) prioritised by direct stakeholders based on market demand, their contribution to the national economy (import substitution) and potential impact on farming households, youths and women. The project is structured around four components: (i) development of agricultural skills and entrepreneurship; (ii) improvement of productivity and resilience; (iii) institutional development and public-private dialogue; and (iv) project coordination and management. Component 2 comprises two sub-components: (i) dissemination of climate smart agricultural technologies; and (ii) promotion of community agro-forestry on 15,000 ha to improve soil fertility and/or reduce pressure on forests. This addendum is to seek Board approval for an SCF/FIP grant of two million (USD 2,000,000) and an SCF/FIP loan of six million (USD 6,000,000) to the Republic of Congo to finance the Project’s sub-component 2.2 "Promotion of agro-forestry". The SCF/FIP has filled the financing shortfall to achieve the outcome indicated in the logical framework of the 15,000 ha community agro-forestry project. The total cost of sub-component 2.2 Promotion of Community Agro-forestry is estimated at Euro 8,768 million. The activities of this sub-component includes three components: i) Building the technical and organisational capacities of communities; ii) Support for land tenure security; and iii) Development of plantations.
