Congo – Support Project for the Establishment of a New Base Year Using the 2008 System of National Accounts

The proposed project involves a grant of UA 461,957 to the Republic of Congo, from the resources of the Technical Assistance Fund for Middle-Income Countries (MIC-TAF), to contribute to the financing of the Project to Support the Change of Base Year of Congo’s National Accounts (REBASING). The change of the base year of the national accounts is a timely opportunity to introduce numerous improvements in measuring economic activity (hidden economy, informal economy, social action, external trade, etc.) or to correct estimation and measurement errors identified during the previous base year. The project consists of undertaking the preparation of the Annual National Accounts (ANA) using the 2008 SNA, starting from a new base year (2022) to replace the current base year 2005, which has become outdated. This operation represents a strategic opportunity to correct methodological shortcomings, statistical gaps, and errors from the previous base year (2005). The project will be implemented over a period of 18 months.
