Description
Description | With the Austrian implementation of the eHealth Digital Services Infrastructure (eHDSI), the infrastructure National Contact Point for eHealth (NCPeH) will be set up and well integrated with the existing national electronic health record system ELGA. Beyond this infrastructure, the initial service ePrescription will be implemented as Country A (for Austrians in the EU) and B (for EU citizens in Austria), making ePrescriptions available to national and European patients across borders. As such, prescriptions issued in Austria will become available for retrieval throughout the European Union (Country A), and foreign patients will be enabled to retrieve European prescriptions in Austrian pharmacies. The project not only supports DIRECTIVE 2011/24/EU on the application of patients’ rights in cross-border healthcare, but will also have potential benefits for countless European citizens. After establishment of the NCPeH and the initial ePrescription service under this call, further health services will be added to become available across borders by employing the NCPeH infrastructure. Examples for these services are laboratory results, medical image reports and potentially the Patient Summary. In addition to fulfilling the goals of cross-border interoperability of national health systems, the project at hand will also integrate eID services for patient identification. To enhance the value for the European community in doing this, all important learnings from this project will be shared with the eHDSI community, specifically in the eHealth Member State Expert Group (eHMSEG). For these reasons, this project will not only serve citizens and healthcare providers, but also the strategic goals of the eHealth Network (eHN). The organizations to work for this project, like the Austrian MoH, ELGA, and GÖG have also played important roles in previous related pilot projects, such as epSOS and STORK 2.0. |
