Description

Description

Core problem The cross-border Ivorian-Liberian Tai-Grebo-Sapo rainforest complex includes the Taï National Park (Côte d'Ivoire), the Grebo Forest and the Sapo National Park (both in Liberia), the last largely intact rainforest areas of the West African rainforest belt. Given the constantly increasing pressure of use, the only way to prevent the Tai National Park from becoming an island is to quickly establish a habitat connection to the Grebo Forest. Due to the existing open land rights issues and the considerable potential for conflict, the creation of this can only be prepared and implemented with great care and with close, transparent and conflict-sensitive involvement of the local population. Module objective The opportunities for a biodiversity exchange between the Tai National Park and the neighboring Liberian forest areas are improved in close cooperation with the local population. Key outputs - A habitat connection between the forests has been established - through a corridor of protected areas or through a mixed landscape of protected areas and agricultural land. - The habitat connection is monitored by the Ivorian National Park Authority OIPR in cooperation with the local population. - The socio-economic situation of the local population in the area surrounding the habitat connection is improved. Target group The target group of the project is the population in the area that is considered for the establishment of the habitat connection. In addition, the unique biodiversity in the Tai-Grebo-Sapo rainforest complex is a global public good. Its preservation is in the global interest.
