Description | A Tomales Bay dairy secured several grants to improve their manure management system to save water, protect Tomales Bay from potential pathogen concentrations, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and recycle materials on-farm. The project includes: 1) replacing their loafing barn flush system with barn vacuuming robots, 2) decreasing the amount of material going into a manure pond that has an old concrete culvert that transports fresh water from the upland area directly into a creek, and 3) installing a separator and composting vessel so the dairy can recycle waste material on site as bedding and/or compost. |
