Description

Description

The project aims to improve the management efficiency of selected marine and coastal protected areas in the Caribbean catchment area of Honduras. Funding will be made available over a period of six years to implement management plans for a portfolio of 17 selected protected areas in the Caribbean, along the continental coast from the border with Guatemala to the Río Aguán, and on the country's Caribbean islands. Payments will be made retrospectively on the basis of verified results that demonstrate progress in the management efficiency of the portfolio. The project is being implemented by the Instituto de Conservación Forestal, Áreas Protegidas y Vida Silvestre - ICF - as the recipient and project sponsor in close cooperation with local governments and NGOs, many of which have responsibility under agreements to co-manage the areas. The total cost is EUR 11 million, of which Honduras is providing EUR 1 million as its own contribution.
