Description
Description | Information Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited [HPCL] has come up with Construction of 80,000 MT LPG storage Cavern at Mangalore with a ticket size of 854 INR Crores. This project in Oil/Gas/LNG Storage sub-sector involves The current status of the project: In progress. Economic/Social Impact of the Project Mangalore LPG Import Facility [MLIF] was commissioned in August 1996 to import LPG and supply to the markets of OMCs in the Southern and Western regions. MLIF is considered to be one of the best import handling source in the country with optimum logistics cost and due to its geographical position and availability of all possible modes of receipt and dispatch. The terminal is currently handling thruput of 2.4 MMPTA out which LPG import is around 1.5 MMTPA and MRPL product is 0.9 MMTPA. The demand for LPG by the year 2039-40 is expected to increase to 4.53 MMTPA. MLIF currently has LPG storage capacity of 24.8 TMT in Horton spheres and Mounded Storage Vessels[MSV], 2 nos. gantry of 8-bay each for loading LPG Tank trucks, Railway gantry for loading full rake at a time, cross-country pipeline to Bangalore/ Mysore, and dedicated LPG pipeline to HPC and BPC LPG plants at Mangalore. MLIF has Facilities at Jetty 9 [standalone jetty] & Jetty 13 [for handling VLGC?s] at New Mangalore Port Trust[NMPT]. MLIF receives imported cargo through 8.0 Km long, 12-inch diameter cross country pipeline from Coastal Terminal at NMPT & is in continuous service round the clock. Therefore, to handle the Projected LPG imports of 4.53 MMPTA by the year 2039-40, New Storage Capacity of 80000 MT is proposed considering the factors such as VLGC turnaround, Jetty Occupancy and operational flexibility. This capacity will also be capable of handling Super VLGCs upto 65000 MT capacity in future which can result savings on ocean freight, lesser berth occupancy, faster vessel turnaround. There are 3 options available for storage of LPG viz. Mounded Storage, Cavern Storage & Cryogenic Storage. Cavern storage has the following advantages- Underground Cavern is safe from warfare, sabotage and calamities. Minimum Damage to Environment as compared to above ground storage. Requires Less Land Surface Area. Lesser operating & maintenance cost and has longer life. Lower Capital cost However, it may be noted that cavern can be provided only in locations having special geology, which is available in Mangalore. |
