Description

Description

The project involves the development of a reserved lane, a service building (station/terminal) and passenger drop-off points for regular public transit, as well as accessibility improvements for the STS’s paratransit vehicles. These infrastructures represent an extension of the STS’s ecomobility corridor in the sector of Jacques-Cartier and Saint-Vallier streets at the CIUSSS de Chicoutimi. The STS public transport system will deliver service all the way to the Chicoutimi hospital centre parking lot, through the establishment of a reserved lane as well as improvements to promote public transport in the area. Considering that many users of the STS have reduced mobility and visit the hospital, the accessibility of the facilities must meet current standards. Presently, the service to the Chicoutimi hospital centre, which is directly on Saint-Vallier Street, does not meet the requirements of safety standards and universal accessibility for people with reduced mobility. The extension of the STS’s ecomobility corridor and its new infrastructure will improve the capacity of the public transit infrastructure and improve the quality and safety of the current and future transit system. Achieving the highest published safety and accessibility requirements and standards will improve access to public transit.
