Description

Description

The project covers the construction of a safe and secure truck parking area (SSTPA) on the site of the existing parking lot located on the Hungarian motorway M1 between Budapest and Gyor, in the proximity of the city of Tata. The concerned motorway is part of the TEN-T core network, on the Orient/East–Mediterranean as well as the Rhine–Danube corridor. The location at Tata, in the central part of Hungary close to Budapest, is crucial for EU freight transport and plays a vitally important role for the international freight volumes in the region. Currently, there is a lack of SSTPA along the motorways of the region, which does not meet the increasing demand for appropriate facilities that offer the necessary service quality to truck operators. This situation leads to driving time that does not comply with the statutory stop time limits, and hence to accidents, as well as to congestion of the local road network when heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) leave the motorway to find a suitable parking place. The lack of SSTPAs also leads to an increased risk of freight crimes. The project will deliver 140 safe and secure parking spaces for HGVs at the Silver level EU Parking Standard in accordance with Commission Delegated Regulation 2022/1012 (including safety and security Information and Communication Technologies). It will be accessible from both directions of the motorway and will operate 24 hours a day. The results of the project will increase road safety and security, allow for time savings (for reaching a secure parking), ensure benefits for users and benefits to the environment by reducing the number of trucks on the local road network.
