Information Andaman Lakshadweep Harbour Works has come up with Construction of additional approach bridge to Chatham Island in Port Blair. with a ticket size of 100.36 INR Crores. This project in Common Infrastructure for Industrial Parks sub-sector involves The passengers and cargo meant for other islands are transshipped by inter-island vessels, which are operated from Port Blair to various islands.to reduce the traffic specially that of tourists, vehicle ferry passengers and heavy loaded cargo vehicles which passes through the causeway. The current status of the project is Idea Stage and is being developed through the EPC route. Economic/Social Impact of the Project To provide facilities and to reduce the traffic specially that of tourists, ferry and vehicle passengers plying between Chatham to Bambooflat, transportation of loaded sawn timber from Chatham saw mill, continuous movement of POL tankers to power house, day night movement of heavy loaded cargo vehicles passing through the causeway if any destruction caused to the existing structure. Hence it has been necessitated to have an additional bridge to Chatham.
