Information Chennai Port Trust has come up with Construction of Bunker Berth at Bharathi Dock in Chennai Port. with a ticket size of 50.66 INR Crores. This project in Shipyards sub-sector involves The current status of the project is Completion Certificate/COD and is being developed through the EPC route. Economic/Social Impact of the Project Berth portion was completed on 10.05.2021 and was commissioned on 01.07.2021. Since Vessel Vamsee [Barge vessel of IOC] was operating in the location till 01.07.2021, the balance work of Approach Trestle could not be commenced in time. After shifting the vessel Vamsee to newly constructed berth area, when the balance work at approach trestle was started, unforeseen under water obstructions and sliding of shore protection [Breakwater] materials from the adjacent old structures in the alignment of Approach Trestle formation were noticed and the contractor could not proceed with the construction. Hence, advise of the consultant, IIT-M was sought and revised alignment including pile design was finalized for 14 pile locations from Grid No. 5 to 11 during January 2022 and for the remaining 2 grids i.e. 3 and 4 was finalized during February 2022. Details of superstructure arrangements for Grid 5 to 11 and modified pile locations for Grid 3 and 4 were furnished in April 2022 for execution.Subsequently, it was decided to skip execution of the proposed piles at Grid No. 3 so as to avoid any likely damages to the existing old barge handling facility and old dilapidated caisson structure within the proximity of pile Grid No. 3.Hence, revised design with long span beam of 16m connecting Grid No.2 directly to Grid No. 4 including strengthening the already constructed Gravity structure of Grid No. 2 was finalized by the consultant IIT-M during September 2022. In view of the above reasons, completion of the work got delayed and the approach trestle work has been completed on 20.01.2023.
