Description
Description | Construction of a Foundation Drainage Collector (FDC) Pumping Station and a utility trench dewatering system to address basement water infiltration issues. The objective of the Lisgar Basement Water Infiltration Study was to investigate causes of basement water infiltration in the Lisgar area and to provide a Prioritized Action Plan of mitigation measures for implementation. The Prioritized Action Plan consisted of the following: a) Strategic lining of priority storm sewers to minimize leakage b) Construction of a utility trench dewatering system c) Monitoring to assess the effectiveness of a) and b) Conditional on the results of the above, consider: d) Building permanent FDC pumping station for high flows e) Replace deficient FDC pipe lengths when they reach the end of their lifecycle As such, the City proceeded with lining of strategic storm sewers beginning in December 2016 and completed approximately 3.3 km of pipe lining using City funding. Subsequent leakage test results indicated that storm sewer lining was not as effective as had been anticipated in preventing stormwater from contributing to the utility trench water build-up. Therefore, Phase 2 of the storm sewer lining program (Doug Leavens Blvd., Osprey Blvd, and Alderwood Trail) has been suspended and the City is moving forward with the construction of an FDC Pumping Station (in addition to the Trench Dewatering System). The objective of all the remedial measures identified in the Prioritized Action Plan remains the same: to mitigate basement water infiltration in the Lisgar area. |
