Description

Description

The proposed project involves the construction of 650 meters of Bus-Only lanes (along with on-road cycling lanes) on Highway 2 between Westney Road and Harwood Avenue, connecting the existing Bus-Only and Bike-Only lanes between Westney Road and Salem Road along Durham Highway 2 in the Town of Ajax. This builds upon the already existing (or soon-to-be completed) four kilometers of Bus-Only lanes completed through the Ontario/Metrolinx Quick Win funding program. Work includes detail design, utility relocations and road construction. This project builds towards the completion of a Bus rapid transit (BRT) system which will further ensure the Regional transportation infrastructure is functional, integrated, reliable and barrier-free. In addition, the proposed bike lanes will support and encourage active living and healthy lifestyles to enhance the connectivity between our communities. With a completed curbside BRT system customers will experience an increase in service reliability along with a reduction in travel time.
