Description

Description

A retention structure allows for the temporary storage of wastewater during heavy rainfall to reduce overflows to the receiving watercourse and during extreme rainfall to avoid backflow and reduce the risk of flooding. The overflow water contains significant quantities of pollutants that contribute to increased pollution levels in the St. Lawrence River. These upgrades are justified by the need to protect against flooding, to clean up and to preserve the receiving waterways. Taking into account the effects of climate change is part of this approach. These projects consist of building retention structures (4) with a capacity of 6,500 to 17,000 m³ in densely populated areas of the City of Montreal where soil impermeability is significant.
