Description
Description | The CELFiDT-project has a dual objective: to contribute to the circulation of European Literary Works and to shed light over the value of literary translation as a profession. Both as a means to – in a long term perspective – contribute to the notion of European cultural identity. The project will encompass Danish translation, publication, distribution and promotion of a work of contemporary literary fiction from 14 European countries: 11 novels for adults, 3 for children. The main selection criteria for the works involved are: literary quality; gender representation; the extent to which each language is not commonly translated into Danish; thematic correlation (identity as seen in connection with cultural memory, nature-culture tension, and language). Our immediate objective with the publication of these 14 novels is to let it serve as an impetus for a long term building of audiences for their authorships in Denmark. Through the strengthening of affiliations with the translators, authors, publishers and agents involved in this specific project and its launch of these new authorships, we will be spurring audience development and curiosity for the diversity and richness of literature from our neighbors across Europe. |
