Description

As of 2011, the Cupisnique wind farm was an 80 MW project consisting of 15 turbines to be located 55 miles north of Trujillo in the La Libertad department, Peru. The project developer - Energia Eolica S.A. - was a Peruvian based firm with Spanish investors and was created with the intention of building, owning and operating wind farms in Peru. The project would sell power to the SEIN grid system and had obtained through tender a 20 year PPA to sell power from the Peruvian Ministry of Mines and Energy. The investment was estimanted at USD 198.9 million. The EIA of the Energia Eolica S.A. - Cupisnique wind farm was approved and as of 2011, expected commissioning was for 2012. The project was purchased by US Conjtour Global in 2012 and is scheduled for financing in the first quarter of 2013. In 2013, OPIC approved a US$ 193 million loan to finance two of the sponsor's wind farms in Peru, the Cupisnique and the Talara wind farms. As of June 2014, 88% of the construction works were concluded. The project applied for carbon credits in July 2012. Commercial operations commenced in August 2014.
