Contra Costa County Marijuana Tax Measure R

approved

Measure R is a tax and regulatory measure for marijuana businesses in Contra Costa County, similar to regulations for alcohol and tobacco. It imposes a 4% tax on gross receipts at cannabis businesses in unincorporated parts of the county, plus $7 per square foot of garden canopy for growing operations. The tax is expected to generate between $1.7 and $4.4 million for the county's general fund, depending on market factors. The measure aims to reduce violent crime associated with illegal marijuana operations and fund enforcement of regulations and offset environmental and public safety costs.
