Convertus Biofuel Facility in East Gwillimbury

Convertus Group is building a state-of-the-art biofuel facility on a 12-acre site on Garfield Wright Boulevard in East Gwillimbury. The facility will process 170,000 tonnes of organic waste, with potential expansion to 200,000 tonnes, producing over 400,000 gigajoules of renewable energy annually to heat up to 5,000 homes. It will convert organic waste into certified fertilizers and renewable natural gas, and use first-of-its-kind technology in Canada to liquify and monetize CO2. The project is expected to save York Region millions in waste management and reduce waste transport distance by over 90%. The facility is under contract with the Town of East Gwillimbury until 2047 and is expected to be fully operational by early 2027.
