Description
Description | The project objective is to decommission and reclaim the Main Landfill of Cote First Nation, which is non-compliant with the best management practices for landfill construction. The Main Landfill has a surface area of 2 hectares and received municipal waste and construction waste during its operation. It is currently closed and ready for decommissioning. An Environmental Site Assessment was completed and identified potential impacts due to landfilling. Further delineation was completed, and a remedial action plan was prepared. Decommissioning and reclamation activities will include the removal of all surficial and buried wastes in a phased approach to remove the sources of impacts and eliminates the need for long term monitoring. Reclaimed land will be owned by Cote First Nation with the intended use as native and/or agricultural land. Removal of the waste and reclamation of the land is in line with the Environmental Quality Outcomes of the Green Infrastructure Stream of the ICIP. |
