Description | The project consists of setting-up a 600 sewing machine, apparel manufacturing factory in Madagascar, Cottonline S. A. (the company or Cottonline), specializing in knit and woven casual wear for the US and European markets (the project). The company was incorporated in July 2001 and currently utilizes 300 sewing machines. IFC’s investment will be used for financing the additional capital investment needed to complete the project and for funding a part of the working capital requirement of the project. At full capacity, the company will be capable of producing 12 million garments per year and employ 1,750 people. The plant will use modern manufacturing equipment that conforms to EU requirements for operator and product safety. Initial customers of the project will be US companies such as GAP Inc, under the provisions of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA). |
