Description

Description

To advance the U.S. National Strategy for Combating Wildlife Trafficking and its associated implementation plan, INL aims to achieve specific objectives to reduce the poaching and trafficking of wildlife through effective programming at the national, regional, and international levels in key source, transit, and destination locations in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. INL aims to support host-nation investigatory and prosecutorial capacity in relation to wildlife crime to disrupt the higher level syndicates involved in wildlife trafficking. INL will support activities that counter wildlife trafficking in Argentina, Brazil, and/or Costa Rica. All three countries need not be represented in an application but one must be considered the target country. Activities proposed should build upon partner countries’ civilian criminal justice system capacity’s and capabilities by: (1) Increasing the ability to disrupt and interdict illicit trade, (2) Strengthening investigative and law enforcement functions, (3) Enhancing prosecutorial and judicial capacity, and (4) Developing and implementing cross-border and regional law enforcement coordination and information sharing. 1. Priority Region/Countries Argentina, Brazil, and/or Costa Rica 2.     Project Goal(s) To reduce the ability of criminal groups to carry out and profit from poaching and trafficking of protected animals and their body parts, and protected tree species, originating from or transiting through Central and South America.
