Description

Description

Coupang's state-of-the-art mega logistics center, located in the National Industrial Complex in Dalseong-gun, Daegu, has a total floor area of about 330,000㎡, two basement floors to 10 ground floors, and one ambient temperature warehouse, and is a huge logistics integrated management center, whose area is equivalent to 46 soccer fields. It is the No. 1 distribution center in Coupang and boasts the largest size in Korea on a standalone warehouse basis. As a key hub of the nationwide logistics network for Rocket Delivery, it will speed up delivery to Daegu and Yeongnam and be used as a major base for future global market expansion.Due to the nature of logistics warehouses where goods are loaded high and transportation equipment such as forklifts must move freely, it was very important to match the level of flatness and smoothness of the floor at the site. This is because if the floor is tilted or uneven, the loaded object will fall or the forklift will not be able to move properly. In addition, the next generation logistics and delivery system using artificial intelligence would be eventually applied, therefore construction was carried out more strictly, noting the importance of smooth movements of automated robots and facilities in the future. The area of ultra-flat concrete in the warehouse section alone is about 238,858㎡. It was extremely difficult to construct this entire floor to meet flatness FM2 (potential loading height of 8-13m, flatness level corresponding to free movement and forklift driving areas of logistics warehouses using wide forklift passages)  and surface wear resistance AR1 (high wear resistance level applied to forklift-driven logistics centers). However, after working hard, the construction was completed within the margin of error, ensuring the safe operations of the logistics center.[ The focus was on ultra-flat construction of the entire floor of the warehouse to facilitate safe loading of goods and smooth forklift movement. ]The logistics center is a “high and wide” building that requires heavy transportation vehicles to enter and exit. The floor height of the Coupang Daegu Logistics Center is also about 10m, and the column gap is more than 12-16m. The Pre-Engineered Building Method (a steel structure outside the building that supports all loads. Steel structures can be placed in areas with a lot of force, and areas with less force can be emptied, so space utilization is high) was applied considering the building characteristics that require large space. In addition, in order to make slabs wider with general reinforced concrete, steel bars must be closely aligned to increase strength, and the distance between pillars may be long, which may burden the weight of steel bar, therefore High-Strength PC Method was used to increase efficiency and safety. The amount of equipment and materials used were also enormous: about 17,000 PC components, some 4,400 tons of steel frames, 14,000 tons of steel bars, 110,000 of general ready-mixed concrete, and 34,000㎥ of ultra-flat ready-mixed concrete.[ The drone platform was used to compare and analyze the process status over time and establish a construction process plan. ]In addition, numerous smart technologies have been applied to process and safety management to live up to the reputation as a “high-tech mega logistics center”. Drones were flown every week to record the site environment every week, allowing tons of materials, equipment, and workers to move around smoothly, and the cloud-stored data were used to analyze the process status by date. The site successfully completed the project in about 21 months despite the complexity of the project, as the site status could be identified in 3D based on geo-location information stored in drone data to compare it with the drawings in developing construction plan.
