Description

Description

The aim of the project is to contribute to food security in the event of climate disasters during the Covid-19 pandemic by providing financial cover for emergency relief measures. This is done by concluding a climate insurance contract through the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Start Network (Start) with the African Risk Capacity (ARC). In the event of a drought, the ARC pays the WFP and Start an insurance payment to finance emergency relief measures. The emergency relief measures include food, nutritional supplements, animal feed, food vouchers and cash transfers (which are issued to eligible persons via local financial institutions). The final beneficiaries are the people affected by climate disasters. The project is expected to be implemented in Mauritania, Mali, Gambia, Burkina Faso, Senegal and Zimbabwe.
