Description

The Central Provinces Electrification Project for Panama will assist in financing the first stage of an electrification program in the Central Provinces region of Panama. The Central Provinces is one of the least developed regions in Panama. Its principal activity is agriculture. Currently, electric service is limited and undependable. Most of the electric facilities are in poor condition because of age and insufficient maintenance. A reliable power supply is needed to improve the conditions in the region. The project will provide power by: 1) constructing the 4,000 kw Yeguada hydro project; 2) constructing additional transmission and distribution facilities; 3) installing two 800 kw and five 25 to 60 kw diesel units; and 4) rehabilitating existing diesel units and the distribution system. These improvements will help to develop the power supply in the Central Provinces region in order to spur agricultural development and industrialization.
