TOBIS Film GmbH was founded in 1971 and is one of the leading independent film distributors in Germany with a strong brand and an excellent reputation among filmmakers, producers, cinemas, tv broadcasters and digital platforms. We distribute 8 to 10 films per year. Our catalogue is composed of about 300 films, all-time classics such as THE FIFTH ELEMENT and 12 YEARS A SLAVE, latest European productions like FAHIM, THE FATHER and DER TRAFIKANT as well as German productions like DAS SCHÖNSTE MÄDCHEN DER WELT and CATWEAZLE. TOBIS Film is a company with a long experience in film acquisition and distribution of national and international films including European productions. Our focus is on national and European films and our goal is to make these films accessible to a large audience with the help of Europe Creative Media. That is why we invest in theatrical campaigns to promote our films and to acquire new European films. In terms of distribution windows, there was a lot of movement and discussions even before Corona. Due to the situation of the past two years, there have been lots of changes in the release windows of non-German films. Typically, theatrical windows are now between 45 and 120 days long, but everything is possible, even a day-and-date release in theatres and simultaneously on a streaming platform. After theatrical release, the windows become more and more flexible these days, as the type of exploitation has changed a lot in recent years due to the growing influence of streaming services such as Netflix or Amazon Prime for example. Usual windows: DVD/Blu Ray/TVOD 45 – 120 Days, SVOD 8 – 10 months, FTV 20-22 months In general, each marketing and promotion campaign is designed individually with regards to the commercial potential of a film. If the target audience of a film is up-market, the marketing campaign will focus on print, out-of-home (i.e. posters) and in-theatre advertising supported by radio and social media buys. If a film scores much wider and will most likely be positioned in multiplex cinemas the budget of a campaign will be much higher and will focus on extensive TV and digital buys supported by nationwide radio, out of-home, print and extensive in-theatre advertising. Press screenings in about eight German cities will be organized to present each film to journalists, press junkets will be organized internationally or in territory depending on the availability of the cast and filmmakers, as well as a red-carpet premieres and festival screenings, if applicable. Social media content and digital advertising is a very good way to reach especially younger audiences that might also be attracted by other alternative ways of communications such as podcasts and ambient media campaigns.
