Description

Description

The proposed $59M Senakw development on the Squamish Nation reserve near downtown Vancouver includes approximately 6,000 housing units in 11 high-rise residential buildings, in which approximately 1,200 units are classified as affordable housing, with 250 (4%) set aside for Indigenous residents of the Squamish Nation. The development will be heated by approximately 5 MW of waste heat recovered from the sewer main and distributed to all buildings though a district energy system. The project scope under this program includes 4% of the sewer heat recovery, the full district energy system, and 4% of the building connections to the district energy system. The project will increase the generation of clean energy by recovering waste heat from the sewer system to displace natural gas-fired space and water heating. The Senakw development will improve the availability of affordable housing for the Squamish Nation and the general population of Vancouver, provide clean residential energy, achieve a low residential GHG emission intensity, and align with the Squamish Nation’s sustainability goals. The project works will include: - energy centre building; - sewer main connection and screening equipment; - heat pumps with approximately 5 MW(th) total capacity; - electric peaking boilers with approximately 8 MW(th) total capacity; - natural gas backup boiler with approximately 6 MW(th) capacity; - chillers with approximately 2,200-ton total capacity; - evaporative cooling towers; - approximately 900 ’trench meters’ of district energy heating and cooling piping and fittings; - eleven (11) building energy transfer stations; - and site work, access roads/paths, mechanical, electrical, control/monitoring, signage, and other related works and appurtenances.
